Space to play – Auf die Plätze 2021

The “Auf die Plätze” initiative created by the three inner-city Hamburg churches St. Petri, St. Katharinen, and St. Jacobi is set to continue in 2021. Seating will be provided in the forecourts and spaces around the churches for those looking for a place to spend a moment away from the commercial hustle and bustle.

Last summer showed us this is something we all urgently need in our pandemic affected day-to-day. The St. Jacobi church forecourt displayed new and playful objects made from recycled construction materials, left over floorboards, and advertising banners by Beate Kapfenberger and Martha Starke from the “morgen.” Agency.  They work together with a range of social agencies to reclaim and recycle materials and give them a second lease on life. We also bring in plants to brighten up our spaces, and we are planning to bring in music and dance during the month of August. We also offer a spiritual thought of the day via QR codes, which provoke reflective, thoughtful, or humorous contemplation within the spaces that make up your life.
